This publication focusses on the link between yoghurt consumption and gut microbiota composition.
Yoghurt intake is generally associated with reduced body weight gain and incidence of type 2 diabetes.
In this study, performed on data from the Twins Uk and Lifelines-DEEP cohorts, a positive link is shown between yoghurt consumption and healthier dietary habits, and with a reduced visceral fat mass.
In addition yoghurt consumption is associated with a transient change in gut microbiota composition, with a higher alpha-diversity and an increase of bacteria species typically found in yoghurt.
