Using a newly validated questionnaire, Danone Research & Innovation teams partnered with CREDOC and evaluated for the first time the prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms and their impact on quality of life in French adults.
Only 7% of participants reported no GI symptom at all, and about 30% reported a high impact of GI symptoms on their quality of life! Interestingly, GI symptoms were associated with lifestyle and dietary patterns.
Though not providing a causal relationship, this study suggests that changes in food habits towards healthier patterns could help reducing the burden of GI symptoms in the general population.
