The aim of this study was to explore the association of fatty acid composition in maternal milk with childhood wheezing phenotypes and asthma up to age 13 years using a new statistical approach. This new approach showed no association between the composition of fatty acids in maternal milk and childhood wheezing or asthma, and thus no association was found in human milk fatty acids with allergy phenotypes in breastfed children. The findings of this study do not exclude the association of lipids with allergic phenotypes in other studies and/or in other regions.
