For the sake of both planet & human health, the shift towards more sustainable diets is crucial; But the local adaptation & acceptance of global recommendations (cf FAO “sustainable health diets”) are not yet fully clarified.

This publication focusses on the complementary role of Dairy & Plant-Based Dairy-Like (PBDL) products in sustainable diets and is based on a methodology of diet optimization performed at individual level in French adults.
Not surprisingly, optimized diets contained more plant-based products and less meats than observed diets. But this study shows also that adopting more sustainable diet is possible in French adults while maintaining current dairy consumption (mean at 214 g/day for women).
And fortified PBDL can be introduced into the diet, as a complement to dairy products, to improve diet nutritional quality (especially for women with low energy and/or low dairy intakes).
