Age and weight solutions
As nutrient needs differ at different ages and weights, it is difficult to design one nutritional composition that is optimal across a broad spectrum of ages and weights. Additionally, a child with a medical condition may be smaller compared with other children of a similar age. Therefore Danone Research & Innovation has developed paediatric products for various age and weight groups: for infants aged 0-18 months or 9 kg in weight, for children aged 1-6 years or 8-20 kg in weight and for children 7-12 years or 21-45 kg in weight.

How we implement the latest clinical research
Danone Research & Innovation has designed a large range of specialised paediatric products with compositions and taste varieties adapted to the varying needs of children in need of nutritional support. Children with increased energy needs and/or fluid restriction, and especially overnight feeding may need energy-enriched feeds. A low-energy, micronutrient-dense paediatric tube feed may offer advantages in children with low energy requirements, such as those with neuro-disabilities. Whey-based tube feeds may improve feeding tolerance and protein balance. Paediatric tube feeds supplemented with DHA and EPA may offer benefits as long-term feeding with formulae without these LCPs may result in low n-3 LCP plasma and tissue levels, potentially affecting neurological and immune function. Infants and children with a partially functional gastrointestinal tract who fail to tolerate a whole protein (polymeric) feed may benefit from semi-elemental feeds. Additionally, the focus of our research and development has been on maximising compliance and nutrient intake of children. Solutions include a smoothie-style sip feed, a dessert-style supplement and an energy-dense, reduced-volume sip feed.

MF6TM – our patented 6-fibre-mixture
Danone Research & Innovation has developed a unique blend of different fibres called MF6TM. MF6TM most closely resembles the mix of fibres found in a healthy diet and provides the optimal balance of soluble and insoluble fibres, including fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) and inulin. MF6TM has been shown to reduce constipation, laxative use and diarrhoea, and to improve gut microbiota in children receiving enteral nutrition
