Pioneering medical nutrition
Our health capital is a precious resource. The importance of the right nutrition throughout life cannot be unstated. It is essential for proper growth and development, for the maintenance of good health, and to help the body recover from illness. However, for people with a disease who may have specific nutrient requirements that can’t be met through a normal diet, the use of medical nutrition can prove beneficial. It can help patients regain the strength and energy their body needs for a faster recovery. Or it can assist children with faltering growth who need extra nutrition to catch up on growth. On a larger scale, medical nutrition has also been shown to lead to lower costs of care: fewer complications, shorter hospital stays and reduced mortality.
We are committed to a patient-centered approach, seeing both the patients and his or her healthcare holistically. It’s all about integrating medical nutrition into healthcare to help give patients a better quality of life both now and in the future.
At Danone Research & Innovation, we are dedicated to developing new and innovative medical nutrition solutions. We investigate the specific nutritional needs associated with age, health conditions and diseases, and apply this knowledge in the pursuit of evidence-based products that meet the nutritional needs of our consumers and patients. Our nine main research areas focus on children and adults who suffer from disease related malnutrition (Faltering Growth, Oncology, Physical Frailty, early onset of Alzheimer’s Disease), who cannot tolerate or metabolise an essential nutrient due to genetic metabolic disorders or allergies (Inborn errors of metabolism, Allergy, Epilepsy) and who cannot eat or swallow (Critical Care and Dysphagia).
