An estimated 15 to 30% of hospitalised children may suffer from disease related malnutrition. The paper discusses the need for a nutritional screening tool as today such a tool exists for adults, but not for children. Guidelines are needed to recommend nutritional treatment for children at risk or who are diagnosed with disease-associated malnutrition or who have faltering growth.
